Leadership Lufkin breaks ground on playground equipment for disabled children
In the next two weeks, children with disabilities will have a new place to play in Lufkin
This morning, the crew from this year's Leadership Lufkin class broke ground on the new handicapped-access swing at Winston Park. The swing will have safety belts and a larger sitting area to accommodate anyone with disabilities. A sidewalk is also being built for access.
It was the second project the group has raised money for. The first one was a new enclosure for the Komodo dragon at the Zoo.
"We didn't want to be a class that created a project you had to pay to get into see. that was the only part, so we wanted to do something else that was going to help the community. So, we decided, 'Hey this is an asset that would be great for the parks in the area,'" Ben Honeywell said.
The group will be working with the parks department on finishing up the work needed.
