Playground equipment-New playground equipment for West Elementary
Roughly 500 West Elementary students got a sweet surprise on Thursday: a brand new, $30,000 jungle gym. It's a project that has been seven years in the making! About 40 students out of the 500 who go to school there were chosen, based on good behavior, to test out the new playground equipment.
Principal Michelle Meredith says the new jungle gym is also a lot safer and she hopes more fun for all the kids. The playground equipment was purchased thanks to a very long fundraising effort, which included donations and cookie dough sales. The school's PTA members say they're glad to see their hard work finally paying off.
"It is amazing. It's so fun to see the kids actually be able to get on it and they worked so hard, to be able to see them accomplish this and to have it so they can use it. It's so exciting," said PTA member Katie Bailey.
And now, they've also raised $5,000 towards the next part of their playground expansion as well.
"The next phase is going to be a little big simpler. Tire swings and new basketball hoops. Our basketball hoops are quite old so adding those in.and so the tire swings are the next new fun thing that they'll really enjoy," said Principal Meredith.
Principal Meredith says it'll probably be another two years before the next phase of the playground will be complete.
